Have you ever had a saddle bag fall off your Harley?
As a motorcycle painter I have had people call me and ask if I could fix their saddle bag because it had fallen of their motorcycle.
To replace a bag from the factory cost min. of $700. If you have stretched bags or a custom paint job or your bag is full of stereo gear and a car or truck should run over it, what's the cost then? In any case it is big bucks to fix or replace a saddle bag. Sometimes your insurance company won't cover custom paint or equipment.
It can also be a safety issue. If a saddle bag should come off and hit another rider it could be a disaster.
The problem with the factory twist pin assembly is it is difficult to know if it is attached securely. Sometimes the forks on the end of the pin can get bent. I know because it happened to mine. Or if you get in a hurry, which was told to me, and the pin dosen't grab the wire in the back tightly then you lose your bag.
With my clips you know right away if it is properly installed because you can see it from inside the bag. And it takes up no more room inside the saddle bag than the factory clip. They only take a few minutes to install.
For the price it is cheap insurance..

ADDED BENEFIT
On the 2009 and newer models there is an added benefit. By removing the factory twist pin assembly it makes it almost impossible for a thief to steal your bags. A would be thief will take a screw driver and pry the pins off the wire in the back which will release your bags. With my clips there is nothing to pry apart.
$20.00 For 4 (2 for each bag).
For the most security it is recommend to use 2 clips per bag.
